| Most of us like worms but I love them.
We were still throwing away our food waste until a couple
of months ago and it all went with the landfill stuff. As
Mum was moving, she had a wormery which she used with her
nursery kids but the worms had long since departed. As it
hadn't been used for ages I cleaned it and relieved Mum of
its presence.
This simple bin-like contraption was about to reduce the
amount we sent to landfill by 70%. In fact, when you start
seperating the food waste, (like they always used to) you
suddenly realise how little you use your waste bin. Our little
family of two and a half, (Kyla is only seven) now only has
one rubbish bin bag for the landfill every three weeks.
The benefits don't stop there. We will have a great source
of organic fertilizer for the garden as those worms get worming.
The worms breakdown the left overs and peelings down to a
concentrated liquid and a tap at the bottom releases the fluid.
If there is one thing every household with some space outside
should get it's one of these.
Loads more stuff can go in a wormery compared to the normal
compost heap. We basically put anything in there that the
worms would be able to munch through and they then do the
business and within a couple of months you'll have plenty
of concentrated organic feed.
I'm going to be stocking these within the next few weeks,
I'll keep the blog posted.
I love worms
